Hair Extensions

I’ve had some lovely comments recently about my hair, thank you ladies!  Well my secret is hair extensions!

I wore clip in extensions from the ages of 16-20, always wanting to try ‘proper’ extensions, but worried about the impact they may have on my own hair.  I did a lot of research and was given a few recommendations by friends, I therefore decided to try Great Lengths extensions.  This brand is ethically sourced, 100% human hair extensions, without exposure to harsh chemicals. Your own hair is not damaged due to the bonding method, they are not glued or weaved, they use Keratin bonds which mimic the structure of your own hair, therefore reducing damage.  I was taking part in the Miss Sunderland competition and therefore thought this offered a great opportunity to try them out.

Great Lengths

Having tried Great Lengths, which set my back just shy of the £500 mark, I decided to give Cinderella extensions a go, they are around £100 cheaper, and offers Protein-Moulded Bonds, which also mimic your own hair structure, and once again, reduces damage to the hair.

Cinderella

In my opinion, the Cinderella Extensions are better than Great Lengths.  I lost less of the extensions, and they have a natural wave to them, as such looked better with my naturally wavy hair.

Given the expense, I decided to try Micro-Ring extensions, which are applied by clamping small metal clips to your hair.  These were less than £200 and therefore I thought an excellent opportunity to save some money.

Micro-Ring

I loved the way the Micro-Rings looked, and think they still look great and potentially better than the others.  However…they started to come out.  Yes I expected to lose a couple, but my goodness, when they came out, you could see the hair follicle attached! This wasn’t a one off, and when it became a regular occurrence, I took a pair of pliers and removed them at once.

I felt the money I saved was a complete waste, as I had clearly damaged my own hair whilst wearing them.  I couldn’t tie my hair up as you could see the bonds, and they were extremely painful.  They were very tight when applied and to be honest, not worth the hassle.

I went back to my Cinderella extensions, and have now been wearing them for around 7 months, with a break after 5 months.  I personally love my extensions.  I feel they make my hair so easy to manage, they can be messy and still look good.  I can tie them up, have them down, curl them and straighten them, and SO many people are shocked when they find out I wear them, as they look so natural.

Current Extensions (just had them applied this day)

The lady who does my extensions is mobile and called Hayley Johnson, her company is HJ Extensions, check her out HERE!  I really would recommend her to anyone, she is incredible, and I know a lot of women who say the same about her.  I personally believe it is down to Hayley that I’ve had no damage to my hair, I could try the same extensions elsewhere, but I still doubt that they’d be as good.

Do you wear extensions? What has been your experience?

I will do another post about how I style my hair in the next few weeks.
