For my birthday last week, my other half surprised me with afternoon tea at The Devonshire Arms at Bolton Abbey. Andrew booked a table in the Burlington restaurant, which is a 4AA Rosette award-winning restaurant and I couldn’t wait! It was a glorious day and Bolton Abbey was bathed in sunshine. We headed towards reception and were taken to our table in the Burlington, in the conservatory part of the restaurant. A few people were making the most of the sun and sitting outside, but having burnt the previous weekend, we opted to sit inside.

I ordered the ‘Indulgent Afternoon Tea’, which came with a glass of champagne which was a lovely birthday treat, soon after our afternoon tea arrived, and I couldn’t believe the size of it! There were so many sandwiches and cakes, especially compared to previous afternoon tea’s I’d had. The sandwiches were also generously filled, so after my share, I already felt quite full, which is unusual for me! There were four mini cakes each and two miniature scones, one fruit and one plain. The scones are usually my favourite part, so if I’m honest, I’d have rather had one large than two small. The mini cakes were also a little on the sweet side for me, so I couldn’t finish them all.

Feeling rather full we headed back to the car and had a drive around Bolton Abbey before heading back to Leeds. With a full tummy and one glass of bubbly and afternoon nap was much needed so I spent the rest of the afternoon asleep! A lovely relaxing birthday indeed.

I’m a big fan of afternoon tea, is there anywhere else in Yorkshire you’d recommend?

Ooh this looks lovely! I could definitely devour those treats right now. What a generous serving, too. Your outfit really matched the occasion!

This looks lovely. I do love an afternoon tea, but since I moved to Yorkshire I’ve only had them in Betty’s. I must make a more concerted effort to sample some more.
