2017 Resolutions

Books on how to improve your gut health

2017 Resolutions

For the past two years I’ve posted my resolutions on the 1st January (2015 & 2016), so I thought it was worth keeping it up for 2017. They’re usually along the same lines as most people – to get fit and to save money. Yes, I’d like to both of these things, but I want my resolutions/goals to be more specific this year.

Improve my Gut Health

In early 2016 I was diagnosed with IBS, something I believe has gone undiagnosed since I was a child. I’ve done the low FODMAP diet, but I have recently started reading up about the gut and mental health and how they are linked. I was recommended the book Gut by Giulia Enders by two friends Ally and Sophie, therefore I intend to improve my gut health in early 2017, which I hope in turn will help when I decide to reduce my medication for Panic Disorder. I will be doing this by following the Gut Makeover, which Andrew kindly bought me for Christmas, and hope to start following it later this month, for four weeks. So it will be goodbye sugar, alcohol and caffeine, and hello fermented foods and Kefir! I’m even consider a detox weekend away, so if you can recommend anywhere, please leave me a comment!

Reduce Unnecessary Spending

As you’ll know if you read the blog regularly, Andrew and I are getting married in September, therefore we’re trying very hard to save, even more than we usually would. This is all well and good, but it leaves me with very little disposable income. I’ve therefore decided I won’t be spending money if I don’t have to and can avoid it. There are several ways I know I can reign in my spending quite quickly, for example, I eat out for lunch every day at work, meaning I probably spend £6 per day on average just on lunch, which is £120 per month and £1,440 per year, which is a massive waste in my opinion! There will be less takeaways and less alcohol consumed too, as I plan on completing at least dry January, but if I don’t miss alcohol I will carry on.

I set this as a resolution for 2016, and I definitely think I have accomplished this to some level; my social media ‘numbers’ vastly increased last year (for me anyway!) and I kept posting pretty regularly despite working full time. This year, I hope to work with more brands and keep pushing and increasing my engagement on social media. I’ve decided to try and stick with a ‘theme’ for my Instagram feed and remove my white borders (come say hi @bylaurenjane) and I’m trying my best not to let those pesky changing algorithms impact me! I really enjoy taking part in Twitter chats, but towards the end of the year didn’t make time for them, so I intend to start as I mean to go on, and make time for them – they’re a great way to find new bloggers!

So there you have my obligatory 2017 resolutions, what are yours? Leave your posts to them in the comments!

I feel you on the spending part! We’re going to Florida in September (Congrats on the engagement, btw!) and I have to cut down on the takeaways… both for the money side of it and the fact I’ll be wearing shorts for 2 weeks!

Loved reading this post, Lauren 🙂

Oh I’d love to visit Florida, you’ll have an amazing time. I’m sure food is where the majority of our money goes! x

Improving my blog is definitely my main resolution for the year! I need to read those gut health books too, they sound so interesting.

I’m the same with Twitter chats, I started really well earlier on in the year and then it dwindled off as I became more and more busy!
When I got rid of the white borders on Instagram I felt so free! I bet you’ll feel the same, hehe!

    Love that gut book 🙂

I don’t really have any 2017 resolutions, only to be as happy as I can be….not worry and not eat quite as many takeaways! haha xx
